Ever Wondered What Intuition Is And How To Use It?

“The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.”
~Albert Einstein

Ever had a crystal clear moment when you just knew something? It’s instinctive. Sometimes you feel it in your body and call it a “gut instinct”. Other times you might know it “in your heart”. Oftentimes we don’t follow this instinctive feeling. This feeling is called Intuition.

I’ve been reading Angela Artemis’s blog, Powered by Intuition for several years now. Last November, I got a chance to talk with her over the phone for a reading. I decided not to ask Angela a question and just see what came to her. She began to describe our house in detail. I was astounded! After her description she told me that we shouldn’t sell our house for three years. She couldn’t have known that we were thinking of doing this after our two older boys went to college. What was holding us back is that our youngest son has three more years at high school. This was the source of our indecision. I couldn’t believe she knew this!

Since then, Angela has written a book called, “The Intuition Principle”. I asked her if she’d like to do an interview and an ebook giveaway. She answered, “Yes!”

Betsy: What led you to write, “The Intuition Principle?”
Angela: I struggled for many years to find my right path in life. Once I understood the integral part that intuition plays in finding that path I wanted to share “the why and how” so no one would have to struggle like I did. Finding your true path, passion and purpose in life gives your life so much meaning. It’s a joy to get up each day knowing that what other people call work is like “play” to you. I honestly think that is how we are meant to live our lives. When you find your true calling it isn’t work – it’s just pure joy.

Betsy: What is intuition?
Angela: Intuition is defined as information that spontaneously appears in our awareness without any conscious effort on our part. Intuitive information comes into our awareness as a result of our brain searching all of our memory banks. Once it finds the answer it brings it up to our awareness very quickly which is why intuition often feels like an “aha” moment.

Betsy: How did you develop your intuition?
Angela: My intuition developed over time and with practice. When I was a little girl I knew things that I had no way of knowing logically. When I was 11 I started reading the Tarot and at 12 began plotting astrology charts by hand. All of this practice opened up my intuition. But, the main thing that allowed it to really grow by leaps and bounds was meditation. Meditation is the single most important thing you can do to develop your intuition.

Betsy: What is, “The Intuition Principle?”
Angela: “The Intuition Principle” is a concept that within you exists an innate technology, your intuition, capable of both guiding you to and attracting to you the life and happiness you’ve always dreamed of.” P. 10 “The Intuition Principle.” By listening to your intuition you are guided to follow the right path in your life. The right path in life is the one you are most passionate about and excited about following. It is the path that best utilizes your gifts and abilities and feels effortless to you. Being on the right path leads to opportunities that open doors to your success. The joyous feeling you get from doing something that your soul craves is the mechanism that attracts more opportunity into your life along this path. “The Intuition Principle” is a guidebook for learning to navigate your life by intuition directly to the most joyous path for your life.

Betsy: Why is being intuitive “natural” to all beings?
Angela: We are a born with a connection to this innate wisdom. It is natural for us to hear it. It is through the socialization process that we begin to look outside of ourselves more and lose the connection to our intuition. Before the age of 7 you probably felt it quite often. Children are usually very intuitive until it is bred out of them.

When you feel that someone is staring at you – and turn to see that someone is looking at you that is your intuition. When you are walking in a dark parking lot and become afraid that someone is following you and turn to see that there is someone there – that is your intuition. Your intuition is another sensing mechanism that all humans have that is there to keep them safe. As we evolved and became more complex beings our instincts evolved as well and this became our “intuition.” This is why it is natural. We all have it and need it because it is necessary to our survival.

Betsy: What’s the difference between synchronicity and serendipity? Why do synchronicity and serendipity increase when you allow your intuition to guide you?
Angela: Synchronicity is a “fortunate or meaningful coincidence.” Serendipity means “something you need or could use lands unexpectedly in your lap.”
The appearance of synchronicity and serendipity, which are both lucky coincidences, in our lives make it evident that that the Universe responds to our requests intelligently. When we have a desire the Universe conspires to bring it into being. We are co-creators with this intelligence. Our consciousness is a part of the greater collective consciousness and whatever we have in our mind is also part and parcel of this “greater mind.” When you follow your intuition you are led to be in the right place at the right time and thereby become the recipient of these fortunate coincidences.
Both of these phenomena occur frequently when you listen to your intuition.

Betsy: What advice would you give to someone who struggles to hear their inner guidance?
Angela: Learn to relax. Let go of the outcome. Don’t worry about being wrong. Intuition thrives in a relaxed peaceful state of mind. One other thing you can do is to learn to meditate and practice every day. Meditation relaxes the mind and allows your thoughts to slow down. When your mind is not crammed full of one thought after another your intuition will easily stand out.

Betsy: What message do you want people to take away from reading “The Intuition Principle?”
Angela: Learn to develop your intuition and to listen to it so that you will “know” whether you are on the right path or not. Never give your power away to others by ignoring your intuition. If you feel that something is wrong, or you have a nagging suspicion that you ought to do something or feel reluctance toward doing something you must honor these feelings. This is your intuition trying to guide you toward what is right for you.

Your intuition can lead you directly to what you were meant to do in this life. When you are unhappy about a circumstance in your life think back – and you’ll probably recall that you ignored this nagging voice that wanted you to do something else. Always listen to your inner wisdom.

Once you are aligned with your true purpose, the path before you will become completely clear and your life will flow easily and effortlessly. Learning to trust and follow “The Intuition Principle” will turn your life around from just getting through each day to living the exciting life of your dreams.

Betsy: As you may know, I love quotes!! What’s your favorite quote?
Angela: My favorite quote on intuition comes from Ingmar Bergman:

“You must train your intuition. You must trust the small voice inside which tells you exactly what to say, what to decide.”
~ Ingmar Bergman

Hi Betsy – Love, love, love your quote today.

I have rather strong concepts on intuition. For me, it’s not the “brain searching the memory banks” (for her future recommendations with you, that would mean she must believe that memory/time is all at once, not linear – otherwise how would she know you shouldn’t move for three years?). Intuition is when your spirit gets a clear communication through all the daily chatter to your brain. For me, it’s all about spirit, pure and simple. I’m pretty surprised to see someone who’s written a book about it ascribe it to the brain and putting together memory. This big great world is made up of many beliefs, hers and mine differ here though we’d both agree on meditation. Thought provoking post. Thanks (.ps – don’t enter me for the book :-) )

  9. Elaine says:

I live by intuition. When I was divorced a number of years ago and knew that I would have to support myself and my son financially after being out of the work force for a decade, I chose to let go of what I was expected to do and aim toward what I wanted to do. I left a 19 year radio career and reinvented myself as a social services worker. Nine years later, I have returned to school to complete a BA in psychology, but not before establishing a reputation as having been “the Personal Development Coach you really want” in the last agency I worked for. Clients and coworkers see me as someone they can confide in almost immediately, and I have an uncanny memory for things people share, although I am hopeless at remembering almost anything else. I have learned to ask evocative questions. But I always stumble over politics in small non-profit agencies. I am at a crossroads now. I know what I want to do (counsel) but not exactly the best way to utilize my ability while I pursue my degree.

Wow! What a great story, Elaine! You are definitely in the right profession! I love that you did what you wanted to do even with the pressure to support yourself and your son. Keep me updated about what you decide to do. I’d love to know!

I love the quote noted by Albert Einstein! Intuition is an integral part of who I am. My intuitive part guides me daily and I feel blessed to know that part of myself. For me, it is truly a blessing and gift from God that leads me fully into the present. I truly agree with the author and am living proof that when I listen to my intuitive self I feel fulfilled and am joy filled in my busy practice.

  13. Rhonda Williams says:

Love the blog article! My intuition tells me to keep up the spiritual work that I’m doing, but sometimes I suffer a lack of confidence even though it’s “mostly” (I wish I could put a more accurate mathematical equation to that) correct. I sometimes get shocked when I get positive feedback and validations on my intuitive messages. I’ve been told not to be so surprised since I’m doing this work from a pure motive of simply wanting to help people. I need to let go of the “fear” that I will be wrong and mess up someone’s life choices. How do I let go of that? I mean, is it reasonable to think that I will always be correct in giving information? Intuitives can be wrong, can’t they? Silly me! I need to trust it!

    [Reply]

    Betsy Reply:

So glad you liked the post Rhonda! Wow… I’d love to hear what you’re work is! I think you need to let go of the fear and trust but that’s really hard to do. But lack of confidence is totally natural. Have you been doing your spiritual work for long? I suppose intuitives can be wrong but maybe that’s part of the big picture as well… something to ponder!
Thanks so much for your thought provoking comment!
