Inpirational Movie Monday – It Can All Change In An Instant

It’s been a long time since I posted an Inspirational Movie on a Monday! I found this one at Unknown Mami’s. She wrote a great post called Advice For The Bride. (Check out her website if you’ve never been there!)

In this TED video, Ric Elias was sitting in 1B on Flight 1549, the plane that crash-landed in the Hudson River in New York in January 2009. What went through his mind as the doomed plane went down? In this TED video, he tells his story.

One conclusion he came to is this: The only thing that matters to him in life is to be a great dad. He also got the chance to live life in reverse.

“I was given the gift of a miracle of not dying that day. I was given another gift which was to see into the future and come back and live differently.” ~Ric Elias

Unknown Mami’s advice for the bride that went with the movie is this:

• Do not postpone bliss.
• In life and relationships: choose happiness.

Need to watch a few more to make your day that much better? Here are a couple from previous Movie Mondays. I added the time it takes to watch in case you don’t have much time! (But find the time if you can!)

Matt Cutts 30 Day Challenge (3:29)

Louie Schwartzberg: Nature. Beauty. Gratitude. (9:56)

Jack Canfield on creating your attiude 1:16

Validation (16:24) and Softball Miracle (5:59)

Hope you have an inspired Monday!

Nice reminders! I remember the post by Unknown Mami. Very nice.

TED talks are so wonderful, aren’t they? It was listening to Matt Cutts’ talk that made me sign up for and finish the National Novel Writing Month Challenge last year.

Great to see you back, Betsy! Hugs!

  4. Situations like that make us prioritize very quickly. We realize what our life is really about and what is important. This is the first video from a passenger that I’ve heard. We are honored to have Captain Sullenberger living in our area. He has become a real hero. Thanks for sharing.

Wonderful post. We so easily push aside the thoughts that we’re mortal, with limited time to enjoy this earth, then fill up our days with dribble. Those reminders to realign our priorities our always welcome.

  9. Just what I needed to hear today! I’ve been mired on negative thinking (lack of sleep can do a number on me) and needed to hear this to pull my head out of my butt and focus on the awesomeness in my life which includes being a great mom.

    Thanks so much Betsy!

    Betsy,

I have been waiting to watch this video all week. It’s as moving as I expected it to be.
Rick’s message is loud and clear.

I know exactly what he means about wanting to stay alive so that he can watch his kids grow up. When my children were young, I made a ‘deal with God’ that if I could just stay alive on this earth until they were young adults, then anything that happened after that would be OK.

I got my wish. I have witnessed my children become adults. I am extremely grateful for this. I give thanks every morning that I have been graced with another day on this earth.

It was a magnificent talk. I have earmarked the other ones to watch. Thanks Betsy.

    Hi Betsy,

This was a very inspirational movie. It makes one realise how short life really is. One moment it’s here, and the next it’s gone. We need to seize the moments we have now, and really make them count.
