The Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award

Sisterhood of the World’s Blogger Award

I am so happy to have received this award from Melody at the Deliberate Receiving Blog. Please go check out her amazing and thought provoking blog about the Law of Attraction. She is teaching me how to manifest more in my life. (More to come in an upcoming blog post.)

The Rules of the award are:
• All recipients need to thank the giver.
• Post 7 things about yourself.
• Pass the award on to 7 other bloggers of their choice and let them know that they have been nominated.
• Include the logo of the award in a post or on your blog.

1. When I was young my favorite game to play was Gypsy. I had a large closet that became my gypsy caravan a la Toad in “Wind in the Willows”. Fast forward 40 years and I’m still playing Gypsy going to all the wonderful places I dreamed of as a child. Life just doesn’t seem right if we don’t have a trip being planned.

The Grand Canal in Venice, early morning.

2. I am a student of life. I love information! I read the encyclopedia when I was growing up. Yes, really!! Google is a dream come true for me. I’m always learning something from new recipes, to new types of plants, blogging, photography and writing. Thanks to my computer, I’m never bored.

My Zen Mama office at Starbucks

3. I’m a foodie and I love to cook. I’m the one planning for dinner as I finish breakfast. I might eat lightly (occasionally) but I’ll never be on a diet! I love to pick the perfect wine to go with our dinner, too. By the way, I found a great website this summer… skinnytaste.com. I’ve been making this Grilled asparagus-prociutto paninis with garlic manyonaise all summer. Yum!

Love making these Asparagus Paninis from skinnytaste.com

4. I love to read good books. Reading is like meditation to me. It clears my head. And really good writing is a pleasure. This summer I’ve read so many good books. Check them out on my pinterest page!

My favorite book, Shadow of the Wind

5. I am fascinated by flowers and vegetables. My tomatoes should be turning red soon and I have peppers for green chile, squash, purple beans and potatoes.

I love growing potatoes right in my own garden

6. I am creative. There I said it. I never thought I was until recently my middle son pointed it out to me. He told me that photography is my creative outlet. Then I thought about creating writing, creating beautiful food and my love of art at museums. He is right. I am creative. (there I said it again!)

One of the most beautiful places in Colorado, Maroon Bells. It’s one of my favorite shots!

7. I love to have great conversations over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. Many of my blog posts start as a conversation. And I love having all of you as part of that conversation. I hope you’ll comment often.

But, enough about me. It’s time to introduce you to some of incredible bloggers I know. I’d like to say that I apologize to anyone left out. I read a lot of blogs and have made many blogging friends. I chose some blogs that I thought Zen Mama readers would love:

And of the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award go to:

Cathy from Treatment Talk - Cathy is doing important work here for parents and others who need a place to share and get support for addiction, recovery and treatment.

Fran Sorin from Awake Create – Fran encourages us to awake and become our creative selves!

Lisa from Getting To Zen – I’ve just rediscovered Lisa’s blog. If you are interested in Zen and parenting, I think you’ll like this one, too. I like her tagline: Personal Growth through action.

Missy from Literal Mom – Missy is a very honest writer about parenthood and her type A personality. I always write the best comments at Missy’s site because her posts inspire me to look within at my own parenting.

Paige from Simple Mindfulness - She writes about mindfulness and taking simple steps towards a happier life. Paige and I always seem to be on the same page! I will read a post and think, “Oh No! I just wrote something about that. I’ll have to wait to post it!” She is a fellow Coloradan and we hope to meet soon.

Sheila from Zensational Living – Sheila has been my blogging buddy from the very start. She always has the answer to all my blogging questions. Plus, she has a very inspirational facebook page. Click here to see it and like it!

Vidya Sury from Going A Musing – Vidya brings her life in India alive. I looks forward to the pictures she posts each Sunday about her town and her travels through India. I keep telling her I’m going to visit someday. She is also a fellow positive thinker. We’re hoping to do a fun project together in the near future.

Now it’s your turn. I’ve told you 7 things about me. Why don’t you tell me one or two things about yourself that I don’t know? Just put it in the comment line below!

Betsy! So great to see you back. (you are, right? :D )

I loved how you’ve written this post – the seven things about you are wonderful to read! I realized we have many things in common and the beauty is – all seven things are so life-enriching.

I am so honored you nominated me. Thank you so much. And such wonderful company, too!

So happy to be connected with you – and yes, I’ve told the Universe that we will meet. We can have the coffee in the morning and wine later in the day. :D

I am waiting to hear all about your Blogher visit! Hugs!

Betsy, you are one cool zenmamma ~ I love learning more about who you are and why is it no surprise to me that you are such a lover of books and games involving imagination. Now I’m off to take a look at some of your nominees ~ the ones I already know are pretty brilliant so no doubt are those who are new to me.

How could it be otherwise with you as the intermediary?

  3. Hi Betsy,

Love learning more about you! This one caught my eye – “I read the encyclopedia.” We share some common interests such as reading, love of gardening, and having great conversations. You are so creative with the many things I see you doing online. It’s so impressive. Thank you for passing the Award on to me. I’m honored to be in the company of some amazing bloggers and love following your blog!

Awwww, thank you Betsy! And I see I’m in great company as well :) Reading your list, I see we are many of the same things! Except for the whole loving to cook thing. Yeah, not so much. Love to eat. Cook no. LOL. Similiar too on the gypsy thing! Weird, yet knowing us… not so much.

  8. Thank you so much Betsy! Your posts give me such great ideas for being a better Zen Mama with my family. I have to completely agree with you on # 2, 3 and 5. How could you possibly think you’re not creative?! It’s crazy what old, false beliefs can do to us when there’s so much wonderful evidence to the contrary everywhere you look. You’re an amazingly creative person!! I can’t wait for us to finally meet in person!

    Big Hugs!!

    Hi Betsy,

I *love* your seven things list…including your love of cooking which I bet is enhanced by your fresh produce, imagination, and love :) Don’t we tend to nourish in myriad ways…your list feels very nourishing!

  10. Hi Betsy,
I can relate to everything except the cooking. Don’t like to be bothered! At all. My name is Tess and I need help;)

  11. Fran Sorin says:

Dear Betsy….Great to have you back. There was a certain ‘joie de vivre’ missing without your presence.

I’ve told you before that you’re very creative. I’m SO HAPPY that you are owning it as a foundation of who you are.

I love your game of gypsy caravan….what a sweet surprise to learn that about you. That you’re a student of life, a reader of good books, and are fascinated by veggies and flowers fit in with what I already know about you.

And someone who ‘lives to eat’ is a woman after my own heart. I think cooking can be incredibly creative.

Thanks so much for nominating me, along with all of the other wonderful women. xxoo-Fran

  12. Wonderful post, Betsy! Congrats on the award!

It’s great to learn more about you, and awesome that you’re owning your creativity. Interesting how we are hesitant to acknowledge our own strengths until others point them out.

I too am a student of life and love travel & adventure. When I was young I’d pore for hours over my parents’ National Geographic collection – I loved to spend time imagining the places I’d visit.

I’m also a positive thinker… sometimes to the annoyance of those around me. ;)

Thanks for being a “grounded” ray of sunshine.

    Hi Betsy,

    Congratulations on receiving this award!

I love the Gypsy game you used to play as a kid and continue to do so as an adult. It’s doing such activities as adults that helps to ensure we continue to have a childlike attitude towards life. I can so imagine you writing a blog post in Starbucks!

One fact about me is that when I play cricket (a popular sport in the UK), I bowl with my left hand and bat with my right hand.

I’m happy to say I know everyone except one on your list of bloggers. They are all great people. I didn’t know of Missy until today, so I’ll be sure to check out her blog.
