Four years ago I could never have imagined that today I would be introducing my new book, ZEN TIPS, Daily Meditations For Happiness and Fulfillment From The Zen Mama.
In 2009, I started down a path. A path to self-discovery.
I was a worried, heartsick mother. I noticed that my teenage boys were growing distant. I nagged and then we argued. They didn’t sit too long at the table for meals. Not unlike other teens, friends became more important than mom and dad. I didn’t always know where they were. Then, in the midst of my worry and concern, the unthinkable happened…. the Zen Mama stepped into my life and gave me calming advice that balanced me and gave me (and the Zen Papa) a new perspective on life and raising children. She would come at night when I couldn’t sleep. I would write her words down on my computer. I learned about trust, acceptance and unconditional love. Those nocturnal writings became my book, HOW TO BE A ZEN MAMA.
I continued to change to the way I looked at things. As, I wrote this blog weekly, I began to use quotes to start each post. I fell in love with quote from Buddha, Lao Tzu and Confucius. I fell for Ralph Waldo Emerson, Helen Keller and Thomas Edison. Other ancients spoke to me, as well… Cierco, Epicteus and Aristotle to name a few. I found myself compiling all these quotes in different folders over my desktop. In 2010, I complied all the quotes I’d been collecting into the book, THE ZEN MAMA’S BOOK OF QUOTES.
Over the next few years, I researched subjects like Laughter Yoga, Zen Buddhism and Positive Thought and kept applying it my parenting and teaching. I also encouraged other people to follow their dreams. So, I decided to follow one of my dreams…photography. In 2011 and 2012, I matched up my favorite quotes with my four color photography and started posting the results on Facebook! I called them ZEN TIPS. Each morning I’d post a ZEN TIP. The tips not only inspired me but appeared to appeal to many. These Tips inspired my new book, ZEN TIPS! It’s a paperback book filled with inspirational quotes, color photography, meditations and “I Am” affirmations. It’s been a year long labor of love that brought me so much joy as I put together and edited the book.
Here are some pages from the book.
Start your day with this book. Imagine a hope, dream or future you want and turn to a page that will answer that thought. Or just read from the beginning to end. Incorporate these meditations with your daily breathing, yoga or a cup of tea or coffee. Savor each page and let it set the tone for the day. A great book for everyone – parents, grandparents, graduates and students of life!
Thank you to all of you for your support, comments, emails and shares on Facebook! You readers are an inspiration to me!

Hi Betsy,
I just wanted to extend my congratulations on your new book. I wish you the greatest of success with it.
I loved what you wrote about “I AM” statements. Such statements are essential for any change to begin. Even if the “I AM” statement is opposite to what we are currently thinking, as you say, we need to say them in order to allow our consciousness and subconsciousness to begin to look at the world in a new and different way.
