Hi Jen,
Yes, I've found it easier to be in the moment with only one child home. Still hard though with a job during the day and Zen Mama at night to find time to meditate. Need to do that though! I like your idea to be on vacation. My husband pretends to be retired.

Hope you're having a wonderful week, too!

Hi Rand,
When my husband read that quote, he said that you can keep time if you have a watch. And now here you are. I, too, am somehow descended from the McKays!

So glad you came by and commented!!

Hi Irving,
You are so right that we need time to be able to manage our lives productively. Love your thoughts on the past, present and future. Your thoughts at the end make me think of Angela at Powered By Intuition. Helping to use our intuition would be a great way to manage our time, too.

So glad you came by Zen Mama!!

Hi Cathy,
So you understand that feeling! Many people don't. I seem to be around a lot of people who like to be 10 minutes late. So I'm trying to let go of that horrible feeling. My youngest son has it, too. He'd want to be 1/2 hour early to his sport practices. I like to be about 5 minutes early.

Glad you enjoyed the post.

Hi Betsy,
I love this post! I have gone through periods of my life with the different styles of time perception. I definitely know I need to practice meditation and try to slow things down....hard with the three kids still at home.
Yet doable, and something to strive for every day. I seem to have a great handle on that when we are on vacation...because I am so much more "in the moment" and not tied to obligations that are day to day. So my thought is to pretend I'm on vacation every day, while still getting to and from:)

Have a beautiful week, friend! xo

Hi Betsy

“Time is free, but it’s priceless. You can’t
own it, but you can use it. You can’t keep
it, but you can spend it. Once you’ve lost it
you can never get it back.”

Being a watch/clockmaker I have been able to repair timepieces of the 175 years old neighborhood, so that they can once again keep time again...does that count? :)

I am decended from the 'McKays'...boy look what time can do!

Yes, totally agree... a good balance of past'present/future. Father Time likes to see us respect of him this way............................................................ (there should be 60 ticks there)

Thanks!

Hi Betsy,

Time is truly an interesting concept. As you rightly point out, it is a man-made concept. But without being aware of time, there is no way we can manage it well or productively.

I generally make use of all three perceptions of time.

I reflect on my past to ensure that I learn the lessons I need to learn from my mistakes to move on. This will help me to make better choices in the present.

I live in the present because it is the only moment I have where my actions and choices matter. Thus, I have to be present and conscious to make the best choices in any given situation.

I project into the future to decide the best choices to make in the present. All of us possess a degree of foresight. For example, if there are dark clouds in the sky, we know that rain is coming and thus we take the appropriate measures to deal with it.

It is the same when it comes to our choices and actions. Certain choices lead to good fortune while others lead to misfortune. The seeds of either lie in the present and the past. By being able to foresee the outcome of our choices and actions before we make them, we will be able to avoid failure and succeed in reaching our goals. If you have some skill in divination, the best choices becomes much clearer and it becomes easier to manage time and our actions.

Thank you for sharing this lovely article!

Hi Betsy,

Interesting topic! This caught my eye, because I can completely relate - "I hate to be late. I feel it physically." That is me, I get butterflies in my stomach if I think I'm going to be late to something. I like to be on time, but not early. :)

I feel I do live in the present. I try to enjoy each day and focus on what is happening at the moment. Thanks for such a thought provoking post.

Hi Melody,
It sounds like we're very similar. I have a had a very happy past so I think that's why it's easy to not be attached to that. But sometimes I'm too much in the future and have to bring myself back to the moment. And I like you I'm definitely happiest there but knowing there's good things to come.

Hugs to you, too!

Hi Hiten,
So glad you came by Zen Mama! I really enjoyed your recent guest post at Positive Provocations. I totally agree with you about the idea that time in exists in our minds. But it's so easy to still get caught up with future thinking mainly. I'm glad you've figured out how NOT to be anxious. It's such a horrible feeling.

So glad to have connected with you and looking forward to reading your blog as well!
