I’ve had a busy week so this is just a short blog! But I wanted to tell you about a fabulous book and the new book that the author has just written. I recommend MITTEN STRINGS FOR GOD by Katrina Kenison in my Mama’s Favorite Books section. It’s subtitle is: Reflections for Mothers in a Hurry.
I read this book years ago when my three boys were 3, 7 and 9. A friend loaned me the book and made me promise to read it right away. I brought it with me to Starbucks while I waited for my kids to finish an art class. I was immediately hooked! At the time I was just beginning to feel the cultural pressure of putting your kids in way too many activities. MITTEN STRINGS FOR GOD (not a religious book by the way) reminds mothers that it’s the daily life that is important. She writes of peace and simplicity much in the way of Anne Morrow Lindbergh and Henry David Thoreau. She has two boys and I felt her writing spoke to me and my three! I went out and bought five books and gave them away for Christmas.
Now Katrina Kenison has written a second book, THE GIFT OF AN ORDINARY DAY, which I can’t wait to read! Please watch the video below (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=olSyCLJU3O0&feature=related). If you’re a parent, especially of a teenager, I know you’ll finish watching the video with tears in your eyes...I did!! Enjoy!
