OR Letting go of attachment to an outcome
The best way is to simply surrender to existence and allow it to take you wherever it takes you; it has never taken anybody into any wrong space. It always takes you back home.
~Osho
Some people call it fate. Others say we’re making the best of a situation. There are sayings like:
“Let go let God.”
“It’s God’s will.”
“Oh well.”
“It is what it is. “
Buddhists call this surrender. To surrender is to truly let go. We had a situation early this week that called on us to surrender our attachment to the future as we saw it.
My husband and I love architecture. We love looking at houses. We found a wonderful fixer upper with a really beautiful view of mountains and lakes. Was this the house we’ve been waiting for? We showed the boys. They loved it, too. Finally after all that looking we had found out what we wanted. The owners were willing to wait while we put our house on the market. So we did that; we put our house on the market 3 months ago.
The only scenario we hadn’t entertained ever while thinking about moving was that our house wouldn’t sell immediately.
Our only offer fell through yesterday. We were upset at first. But amazingly, it wasn’t very long until we realized that Life, the Universe, God had other plans for us. I remembered reading about surrender.
“Surrender means to live the same way in life as a good swimmer swims in the river. Life is a river. Either you can fight or you can float; either you can push the river and try to go against the current or you can float with the river and go wherever the river leads you.”
~ Ohso
We told our children about the change. They were sad at first. Then we looked at all the other houses on the market. They, too, realized (with us) that the house we had an offer on is not the only house in the sea (or I guess on land).
So we’ll continue the search.
Oh and if you know of anyone interested in the house with the unbelievable view of the front range of the Rockies outside Denver (see above picture), email me at thezenmama (at) gmail.com.
We truly can’t know what our future is, so you have to just wait and see what life brings. Maybe we’ll still sell our house. Maybe we’re meant to stay here. Either way we’ve let go to the attachment the future.
Blessed are they who expect nothing for they shall not be disappointed!
